london was perfect last night. crisp and cold, with the smell of explosives hanging on every corner.

things that are excellent:

♥ hanging with friends
♥ sushi. especially if mined with wasabi.
♥ pickled ginger. i think i may buy some for snacking.
♥ throwing fireworks around in a fashion that would have public safety films crying.

d got into a ruckus at the bus stop last night, apparently, and has coke all down his jacket. i don't remember this. ( 1x bottle rose, half a 35cl bottle of whisky = 17.13 units)

whoops
1. work work work. i have a new part time job in a photography shop/gallery which is ace. i get to leave my house AND speak to people! i'm learning to use the colour printing machine which is exciting enough, but the thought of having all that control over the printing of my own photographs nearly makes me wet my pants. another part of the job is helping ot organise a photography festival which will be a challenge to say the least, but an exciting one that i'm looking forward to. all this plus i am still juggling freelance work in there, along with making lots of stuff for a christmas art market. not enough hours in my day!

2. i have been cycling to my new job & back. it isn't massively far but it is by myself and through the town centre [lots of scary buses] and at night and involves hills so i'm quite proud of myself. i can't believe it's taken me this long [6 months] to start riding my bicycle. i am a fool.

3. mmmm boys. for too long now my heart has been idle but finally i have a crush on someone. one of those butterflies heart pounding ones even. i'm so looking forward to bumping into him again soon.

4. fresh granary bread & butter.

5. tonight. the sky is getting dark, i'll have to switch my light on soon. i'm torn between venturing out of the house to somewhere with actual fireworks & a bonfire, or staying high up in my room and watching the whole city sparkle. hmmm. bonfire party tomorrow night, yay!

The weekend wasn't a total cause for misery..... Post breaking up me and the lady R did manage to go to acouple of things as friends. As it turned out both of them were totally awesome

On the one hand, as charley stone can probably testify, the london dirthole company are one of the very best un-famous live bands around at the moment.....

On the other, the japanese wrestling was one of the greatest wrestling shows i've ever seen, and shingo vs yokosuka was one jaw droppingly awesome, honestly one of the greatest matches I've ever seen live, made even better when you found out (the day after the match) that shingo was suffering from exaustion have wrestled three consecutive nights after only just recovering from flu..... although I miss his mullet

In the end BxB Hulk did have dancers, although he didn't do his proper dance (there's a rumour that he toned it down to make it family frendly), I still screamed like a girl though.....

In there's anyone I haven't made watch it yet..... this is what his entrance *should* have looked like

Peace will come to me

Operation Stay Up Again For Far Too Long For No Particular Reason is under way. I was supposed to be working at the door of a gig tonight but it was cancelled so I'm twiddling my thumbs and drinking tea at home under my duvet (whilst wearing the bizarre Stay-Puft November attire of the circulatorily-challenged). I seem to be going through a slightly hyper phase where I need the bare minimum of sleep, and I like being awake when no one else is. So I am going to write some more about music.
New top pop picks recently in no particular order:

1. Holy Fuck - Milkshake

Yes I know this is over a year old, but I've only just got round to listening to the Holy Fuck album. This is a fantastically kinetic noise-kraut-disco beast which sounds at once like both Neu! and the Chemical Brothers. I always imagine Holy Fuck records as being danced to in the sadly now-gone Kaput! Club in Glasgow (subterranean, dark red lighting, weird black and white films, smoke machines) because that's where I first heard their tremendous The Pulse (and promptly spazdanced embarrassingly drunkenly and overenthusiastically). I don't know why I felt the need to tell you that but there you go. Anyway. This is BIG SEXY NOISE! Fuck you Lydia Lunch.

2. Royksopp - This Must Be It (TBS Remix)

Royksopp's twinkly-swoony latest(?) single featuring synth-chanteuse of the moment Karin Andersson is remixed by Taking Back Sunday of all people, and they turn it into a pretty shameless Holiday rip, but with added Italo chugginess and searing keyboards. A sure-fire uplifting dancefloor peaktime (that's enough compound adjectives - Ed) record I think.

3. Atlas Sound - Walkabout (feat. Noah Lennox/Panda Bear)

Something completely different here (obviously, how patronising is it of me to say that, GOD). A gloriously sunny Beach Boys-y chiming thing, with the lost-in-the-woods sampliness and strangeness and echoes that made Panda Bear's band's Merriweather Post Pavilion so striking. A pleasantly circling walk around a multicoloured shiny-bright block (maaan).

4. Mirrors - Into The/Your Heart (Listen at their Myspace here, no YouTube unfortunately and I don't have the heart to put their song up on here as they're not a massive band)

This is a really very straightforward indie/synth-pop tune in the vein of Yazoo's Nobody's Diary or Furniture's Brilliant Mind, sort of. It does have a vaguely U2 chord structure and it's hardly massively groundbreaking or experimental but I think it's really rather charming and shimmery. And they do look rather over-styled and flash-in-the-pannish, don't they, but I still stand by my love for The Departure's All Mapped Out despite their similar unoriginal "vibe" (and quick slide into obscurity). Guilt free pop tunes for all is what I say. Borrowed-nostalgia-for-the-unremembered-Eighties is nothing to be scared of. Or something.

5. HTRK - Ha

(Apologies to those of my Facebook friends who have seen me post this already)
This is so unbelievably, seductively, Lynchily (yeah it's totally a word now) brutal and evil and visceral and grindy and stuff that I can't really find the appropriate words to describe it.. I would just say GRRRR again but- oh look I've done it anyway.

So I had my first dream featuring the lady r last night. Thanks for
that mister subconsious, much appreciated.

It also featured late for work anxiety, forgetting thinks and having
to climb a high thing in order to get across a rail line. All of my
favourite things..... No wait.....

My Life According to Ghostface Killah

  • Nov. 2nd, 2009 at 9:21 PM
Using only song names from ONE ARTIST, answer these questions. Pass it on to 12 people you like and include me. You can't use the artist/band I used. Try not to repeat a song title. It's a lot harder than you think! Repost as "My Life According to (BAND NAME!)"

Pick your artist: Ghostface Killah
Are you a male or female? Let's Stop Playing
-Describe yourself: The Champ
-How do you feel: Mighty Healthy
-Describe where you currently live: Outta Town Shit
-If you could go anywhere, where would you go: The After Party
-Your favorite form of transportation: Shakey Dog
-Your best friend is: Maxine
-Your favorite color is: Charlie Brown
-What's the weather like: Ghost Showers
-Favorite time of day: Late Night Arrival
-If your life was a TV show, what would it be called: Beat The Clock
-What is life to you: Heard It All Before
-Your relationship: All That I Got Is You
-Your Fear: Jellyfish
-What is the best advice you have to give: Run
-If you could change your name, you would change it to: Tony Siegel
-Thought for the day: Watch Your Mouth
-How you would like to die: Poisonous Darts
-Your soul's present condition: Back Like That
-Your motto: Be Easy
One of the things that's great about el jay is that you can write a thing you don't want to say out loud, and let the gossip grapevine do your work.

the first time I ever laid eyes on the lady R, my brain actually did the hollywood thing of slightly slowing down time, and put her in soft focus while everything else in sight became blurry.... so far in my life that's the only time that's ever happened to me.

when the lady first deceided that she wanted to be more than friends, we didn't have an argument for 9 months, mainly because we both over-talk everything to the point of the ridiculous. I honestly don't think i've ever had such a contented period of my life (and I know that happened to be the last 9 months of best-job-i've-ever-had so it's not the only influence, but I reguard it as the biggest)

at the end of last week, me and the lady split up.

If anyone ever gets around to writing the story of dan, I'd have the sneeking suspicion that this is going to be near the very top of the regrets of my life.

obviously we're still friends, still enjoy each other's company and totally are good to be in the same place at the same time, so please don't do the awkwardness things, we're ok with each other....

but do me a favour, I really don't want to talk about it, sorry

Good News/Bad News

Do you want the good news or the bad news first? Well you can pick!

”Bad )

“Good )

”which )

*I know a couth person does not start a sentence this way, but since when have I ever been couth!

I forgot to disallow comments before, and I replied because I'd let people comment, but actually I just want this out there and not to talk about this for a while. Thanks.

Flickr help please!

I'm trying to add this community  onto my Flickr account so I can post pics of my dinners straight in here, like I can to my own live journal from there, any ideas how I do this? I've seen that some of you may  have managed to do this. If I can do that, then I'll be able to post pics taken from my Nokia 5800 phone too, without turning on the computer. help!

November

So, with all this Nanowrimo going on, I'm thinking of doing a NaMUwrimo. I've googled it, and I'm not the only one who's thought about this. A month of music composition, with the idea of giving myself a kickstart, and hopefully hitting the Codex Machine target of finishing The Album before Christmas.
Does anyone else fancy doing namuwrimo, then we can (figuratively) give each other a kick up the arse musicwise.
